Cotton and polyester are mostly dyed with synthetic dyes. But dyeing cotton is a process that uses more water and heat. Because the surface of cotton fibers is negatively charged, it is not easy to react with negatively charged dyes. Even when adding salt and alkali to the dye bath, the dye associated with the cotton fabric is only about 75%. To ensure color fastness, dyed fabric or yarn is washed over and over again in hot water, creating a large amount of waste water. About 200 L of water is used to produce 1 kg of fabric.
